A feel good story of country music set in Glasgow, Wild Rose is a real British discovery. Jessie Buckley, following her breakout role in Beast, plays Rose-Lynn, who we meet as she is released from prison back to her Glasgow home. Feisty to a fault, she dreams of Nashville, but with two small children and an ankle bracelet, it’s a distant possibility.

Julie Walters plays her mother, keen to see her get on the straight and narrow. But when she takes a job working for the affluent Susannah (Sophie Okonedo), Jessie sees a way to follow her dreams. Showing a healthy amount of grit and with toe-tapping original songs, this spirited tale of country music (“three chords and the truth” as Rose-Lynn’s tattoo puts it) is a heartfelt Scottish treat.

“This is an upbeat project fuelled by anger.” ★★★★ – London Evening Standard

“This is a sentimental, faintly unreal story: very well sung.” ★★★ – Guardian

“Entirely delightful, fresh as a Scottish summer evening.” – The Hollywood Reporter
