By car

There is good access to Colchester from all parts of the country via the A12, A120, M25 and A14. Firstsite offers parking for disabled visitors only; there is no on-site parking. Disabled parking bays are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Outside the building is a drop-off point for cars and coaches and special access for disabled visitors. We are a short walk from all Colchester’s town centre car parks – locations of nearest car parks are marked on the map above. Find out more about parking in Colchester.

By bus

By rail

Firstsite is a few minutes’ walk from Colchester Town Station (see map) or 25 minutes’ walk from Colchester mainline station. Journey time from London Liverpool Street to Colchester is approximately 50 minutes on Abellio Greater Anglia services. Firstsite has concessionary prices for most of its paid events.

Concessions include the following:

  • Senior Citizen (over 60s)
  • Disabled Person
  • Full Time Students (NUS card or student ID required)
  • ES40 Holders / Job Seeker (ID required)
  • Personal Assistants are offered a free ticket for any session when accompanying a person with disabilities.

Firstsite members can benefit from concession rates for some of our sessions, please remember to tell us if you are a member when booking.

Photography is not permitted inside the building. Firstsite asks visitors to refrain from touching the artworks.

    You can leave luggage in the cloakroom behind our reception desk. A £1 donation is much appreciated.

    Refreshments are available in the café located in the entrance of the building, and there are allocated dining spaces throughout the building and on the terrace. Please don’t take food or drink into the exhibition spaces.

    Hearing loops are accessible in our auditorium, meeting rooms and learning spaces. Audio described tours of current exhibitions are now available, led by our skilled Gallery Assistants. Assistance dogs are welcome.
